Memorial Program

Memorial Bench and Tree Program

The Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy is implementing a discreet and laudable Memorial Bench and Tree Program for area residents and community members to become a part of the Gardens campus.

The Tree Program will center on the grove of Gingko trees by LeRoy King Carousel, while the Bench Program will be strategically spread out across the campus. This is a program offered on a first come, first serve basis with limited spots available for both. It is not offered in perpetuity and is time-restricted to five years.

A plaque will sit near the selected tree or on the back support of the selected bench. A plaque template allows us to create uniformity and ease of replacement when damaged within the care period of five years.

Memorial Bench

The cost of the Memorial Bench is $5,000 for a period of five years from the date of receipt and acceptance of full payment and installation of the plaque.

The five years is the selected time period to allow multiple individuals or families to participate in the program over the years.

A simple agreement will be offered as recognition of the program and as a reminder of the terms, showing exact location and contact information for both parties.

The plaque, which measures 3” by 8”, will be installed on a fixed bench.

The plaque belongs to the individual or family, who will be contacted three months prior to the expiration of the five years to see if they would like to renew. There will be an expected rate change to $8,000 for the next five years, payable in advance of expiration.

If not renewed, the plaque will be offered to the individual or family as a memento following the expiration.

Because of the public nature of our Gardens, it is understood that when photography occurs on campus, a particular bench and plaque may be featured in the media or related forums.

Please share your verbiage, not to exceed 50 letters (not including spaces) on the application form.

Memorial Tree

The cost of the Memorial Tree program is $10,000 for a duration of five years, and includes one tree replacement if the tree is damaged during the ten-year agreement and confirmed by a certified arborist.

The Memorial Tree program will be centered at the grove of gingko trees by the Carousel, just to the south and east of it.

The Gingko trees at this location were recently planted and are in good health.
There are only 10 trees available for the Memorial Tree Program with additional choices possibly in the future if the program is successful.

The plaque, which measures 5” x 10”, will be installed on the concrete apron by each tree.

The five-year cycle begins once the full payment is received and the plaque is installed.

A simple agreement will be offered as recognition of the program and as a reminder of the terms, showing exact location and contact information for both parties.

The plaque belongs to the individual or family, who will be contacted three months prior to the expiration of the five years to see if they would like to renew. There will be an expected rate change to $12,000 for the next five years, payable in advance of expiration.

If not renewed, the plaque will be offered to the individual or family as a memento following the expiration.
