Winning Bank of San Francisco’s 2024 Community Impact Award

The Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy is a nonprofit dedicated to serving the heart of downtown San Francisco through community engagement, programming, and stewardship. Established five years ago to maintain local control of the beloved Yerba Buena Gardens, the Conservancy oversees an 87-acre campus spanning three city blocks and is funded by hotels, local businesses, and event rentals. The organization focuses on community building efforts, offering initiatives such as free weekly carousel rides, a playground that is in the process of being revitalized with new elements for all ages, and fruit trees planted to address food insecurity.

The Conservancy’s mission is deeply rooted in equity and sustainability, serving a diverse neighborhood where 30% of residents live below the poverty line. In addition to hosting over 80 free events annually, the organization will unveil its first Strategic Plan in 2025. The plan will spearhead the launch of new programs, including a Memorial Tree and Bench Program and the Art from Oaxaca exhibit, scheduled to run from May 9 to June 22, 2025. Community members can get involved with the organization by donating directly, participating in the Memorial Programs, volunteering as docents for the Conservancy’s emerging environmental education program, or visiting the site to enjoy its many offerings, including one of the largest memorials to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a Creativity Museum, an ice arena, and a bowling center.

“We couldn’t ask for a better partner than Bank of San Francisco. The relationship has been great over the last year and a half, and we look forward to growing further in the years ahead.” – Seve Ghose, Executive Director, Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy
