Alebrijes and Nahuales Coming to Yerba Buena Gardens

Alebrijes and Nahuales: Fantastic Giant Sculptures from Mexico Coming to San Francisco Spring 2025
San Francisco, California, May 9 through June 22, 2025: Yerba Buena Gardens will showcase Mexican artisans from the State of Oaxaca, offering a visual feast that acknowledges the rich cultural and art-craft of Mexico. These whimsical sculptures, called alebrijes and nahuales, have come to be recognized as an expression of Mexican magical realism. This display of eight sculptures around our Gardens will be free to attend.
“Yerba Buena Gardens is the soul of downtown San Francisco and opportunities such as these come once in a decade or so. This occasion is one which San Franciscans should avail and pay tribute to artisans who offer a cacophony of colors and shapes that create memories that are heart-warming and transport one to a place of curiosity and discovery. Each sculpture shares a different story.”
-Executive Director Seve Ghose.
